 Upma Recipe



  • Rava - 2 cup
  • Onion -  2
  • Green chilli - 6
  • Ginger - 1 inch piece
  • Mustard seeds -1tsp
  • Urad dal - 3/4 tsp
  •  Curry leaves - few
  • Water - 4 cups
  • Oil-6 tsp
  • Salt to taste


Roast the rava in a pan without  color change, remove and cool.Chop onions, ginger and green chillies finely.

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add urad dal  and curry leaves.

When dal turns golden brown, add chopped onions, green chillies, ginger and cook for few minutes

Pour 4 cups water and bring to boil. When the water begins to boil ,add the rava in a stream, stirring constantly to avoid lumps of forming.Once rava absorbed all the water, cover and cook on low heat for 6-7 minutes, stirring all while.

Serve hot with Pickle or Chutney
