Lemon Rice

Lemon Rice


  • Rice -1 cup
  • Water -1 3/4 cup
  • cumin seed -1/2 tsp
  • mustard seed -1/2 tsp
  •  turmeric-1/2 tsp
  • dred chili -2
  •  green chili -1
  •  curry leaves - few
  •  chana dal,2 tbsp(-pre-soaked in water for at least half an hour)
  •  roasted peanuts -1/4 cup 
  • salt to taste
  •  lemon juice -1/4 cup
  • Oil


Wash rice gently change the water several times until the water looks clear.For the soft rice, rice must be soaked for at least 15 minutes before cooking.Drain the rice and put it in the pan. Add water, oil and salt, and bring to boil. Once the water is boiling reduce the heat to low and cover the pan.

cook about 15 minutes, or until rice is tender and the water has evaporated. Turn off the heat and fluff the rice with a fork.

Heat oil in a pan over medium heat; sauté the peanuts for about 2 minutes until peanuts changes the light brown color.Take out the peanuts from oil and use the same oil for rest of the Tadka

Add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds after seed crack add red chilli, curry leaves and green chilies, and stir for a few seconds.Add the dal Chana, sauté for about a minute.
Add turmeric and mix well.Add rice, pre-cooked peanuts and sprinkle with salt and lemon juice over the rice.Mix gently.

Serve With Fried papads or chips
